Trump Ultimatum: I expect Zelensky’s response by November 27

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he has set a deadline for Volodymyr Zelensky to respond by Thanksgiving Day, November 27, to the 28-point U.S. peace plan aimed at ending the war

Newsroom November 21 07:03

“This is a good day, the right time,” Trump said, while leaving a “window” for extending the deadline if talks with Ukraine “go well.” Speaking on Fox News Radio, he emphasized that the U.S. is involved for one reason: “we want the killing to stop.”

Addressing concerns about Russia potentially threatening the Baltic states or other parts of Europe in the future, Trump said Moscow does not seek further war, noting that it is already facing consequences. He reiterated that Ukraine could lose more territory “in a short time” if the war continues.

Phone Call Between Vance and Zelensky

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky spoke today by phone with U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance, focusing on the American plan to end the war. Axios reported that this was the highest-level contact between the U.S. and Ukraine regarding the new plan, as Zelensky has not yet spoken directly with Trump.

Zelensky told the U.S. government that he is ready to negotiate, but both the White House and Trump are pressing for the plan’s signature by Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 28.

The 28-point plan would require Kyiv to make territorial concessions, agree never to join NATO, and grant full amnesty to Russians alleged to have committed war crimes. In return, the U.S. and Europe would provide security guarantees modeled on NATO’s Article 5, committing the U.S. and European allies to treat an attack on Ukraine as an attack on the entire “Atlantic community.”

Earlier today, Zelensky held a video conference with the leaders of Germany, France, and the U.K. to discuss the plan.
