The presence of the Prime Minister at the enthronement ceremony of the new Archbishop sent a strong message for the preservation of the centuries-old unchanged devotional character of the Monastery as a beacon of Orthodoxy with a global radiance.

In his response, Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent to the members of the Sinaitic Brotherhood the message that Greece is present and their helper for the preservation in eternity of the special and unique status bequeathed to us by our ancestors. He described as a “national duty” and our reasonable duty any assistance to those who keep our traditions in the heart of the Sinai Peninsula.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Greek and Egyptian states have paved the way to preserve in perpetuity the cultic character of the monastery, its rights, and the protection of the monks. He also added that the agreed guidelines and principles will certainly be brought to the attention of the Sinaitic Brotherhood, which will have the final say.
