The Cure: Coming to Greece for a live concert — When ticket sales begin

The concert will take place at O.A.K.A. in the summer of 2026

Newsroom October 29 09:39

Legendary British band The Cure is returning to Greece for a major live concert as part of the Ejekt Festival 2026.

The performance will be held at the Telekom Arena at O.A.K.A. on July 15, 2026, with ticket presales opening on Friday, October 31, at 11:00 a.m. via more.com.

The announcement was made through the festival’s official Facebook page, sparking excitement among fans who have long awaited the group’s return to Athens.

From Post-Punk Roots to Global Fame

Formed in the late 1970s, The Cure released their debut album Three Imaginary Boys in 1979, quickly becoming a defining part of the post-punk and new wave movements that emerged in Britain in the wake of the punk revolution.

In their early years, the band drew comparisons to contemporaries such as Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division. By the early 1980s, however, their dark, brooding sound had helped to establish the goth rock genre.

Following the release of Pornography (1982), the group’s future seemed uncertain, with frontman Robert Smith seeking to move beyond the melancholic and depressive tone that had come to define their music. With the single Let’s Go to Bed later that year, The Cure began embracing a more pop-oriented sound — a shift that would expand their audience worldwide.

Throughout the decade, their popularity soared. In the United States, singles such as Just Like Heaven, Lovesong, and Friday I’m in Love climbed the Billboard Hot 100, cementing their place as one of the most influential rock bands of their time.
