Plevris: Brochure will be distributed to illegal immigrants and warn them of the sanctions

Distribution will be mandatory - Imprisonment from 2 to 5 years, among other penalties

Newsroom October 20 05:21

A form informing illegal immigrants who enter and remain in the country without being entitled to asylum about the sanctions they will face will be distributed to them, according to a ministerial order issued by Immigration Minister Thanos Plevris.

According to the relevant information, as part of efforts to inform third-country nationals who enter or reside illegally in the country and are located in Closed Controlled Facilities, Reception and Identification Centers, or Controlled Temporary Accommodation Facilities for Asylum Seekers operated by the Reception and Identification Service, as well as those who visit the Asylum Service to apply for international protection, a form with the following content will be distributed in addition to other informational material provided by the relevant legislation:

The text:

The Ministry of Migration and Asylum of the Hellenic Republic informs you that its Services will examine your asylum application in accordance with national and European legislation.

If you are not recognized as a refugee and are not entitled to protection, then you have entered and remain in the country illegally. In this case:
a) your application will be rejected,
b) you will be subject to administrative detention for up to 24 months, and
c) you will be committing a serious criminal offense, for which you may be convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for 2 to 5 years.

The only way to avoid the above consequences is to voluntarily leave Greece and return to your country of origin. The best time to do so is now, before you submit your asylum application.

In the event that you commit violent acts or display violent behavior within the Facilities where you are hosted, your asylum application will be immediately rejected, as you will be considered a threat to public order and security in Greece.
