The authorities are investigating the scenario that the man who fell from the Apollon Tower had planned the leap in advance (updated)

The evidence indicates that the man had planned his action in advance – he had visited a store in the Apollon Tower a day earlier – and he was about to become a father for the second time any day

Newsroom October 17 05:11

A tragedy that shocked the community unfolded on Friday afternoon in Ampelokipoi, when a 44-year-old man, who had become a father for the second time just days earlier, fell from the 24th floor of the Apollon Tower, ending his life in front of dozens of witnesses.

According to information obtained by protothema.gr, all indications are that the man had planned his act in advance. Just one day earlier, he had visited the same café located in the building—apparently to “survey the space,” observe the layout, and gauge the distance from the railing. People who saw him described that he sat alone, drank coffee without speaking to anyone, and left quietly.

During his first visit, he went unnoticed. The following day, the 44-year-old returned. Again, he sat alone at a table near the windows, ordered a coffee and a burger, and appeared calm, completely focused, almost detached from those around him.

Witnesses reported that he ate slowly, staring at the horizon for long periods without speaking. At some point, after paying his bill, he got up, walked to the edge of the balcony, among unsuspecting diners enjoying their lunch. He stood there for a few seconds looking down, and before anyone could react, he jumped into the void.

Customers and staff froze, with some shouting for help in an attempt to comprehend what had happened. Minutes later, police and paramedics from EKAV arrived at the scene, but the 44-year-old was already dead. Authorities are investigating the reasons that led him to take his own life, and it is not yet known whether he left a note or message.

It is worth noting that this is not the first incident of someone falling from this tower. Staff at the location are reported to be in a state of shock.

New evidence is coming to light in the case of the 44-year-old man who fell from the 24th floor of the Apollo Tower in Abelokipi this afternoon.

According to reports, the man was expecting his second child, as his wife is due to give birth any day now. The reasons for his suicide remain unknown at this time.

The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m., when the 44-year-old was reportedly sitting in a 24th-floor cafe, drinking his coffee, receiving a phone call, and shortly afterwards got up, walked up to the table, went through the glass door and fell through the window and into the void.

The fall caused a intense noise, with many people initially thinking it was an explosion or gunshot.

“We heard a bang, we thought it was an explosion”

A shop owner located a few metres from the scene of the tragedy noted that “we heard a huge bang and we were scared, we thought there was an explosion. We went outside and unfortunately we saw the man.”

Police officers rushed to the scene and cordoned off the street, as well as ambulance rescuers who merely confirmed the man’s death. The 44-year-old fell, under circumstances under investigation, from the 24th floor.
