Foreign doctors in the US may be exempt from the $100,000 work visa fee

The White House had clarified that the fee would only apply to new applications and not renewals

Newsroom September 22 08:05

Doctors may be exempt from fees in order to obtain a work visa to the U.S., Bloomberg reported Monday.

The White House announced last week that it would impose a $100,000 fee on foreigners who want to secure an H-1B visa (it mainly applies to scientists, engineers, programmers and other specially qualified people) to work in the U.S.

However, according to the White House, there would also be some “case-by-case exceptions” if deemed to be in the “national interest.”

Doctors might be included in those exceptions, a Bloomberg reporter said in a post on Platform X, citing White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers.

On Saturday, the White House had backtracked on the original decision clarifying that the $100,000 fee for H-1B work visas would only apply to new applications, not renewals.

The clarification was given after concerns were raised by India and companies that could be affected by this measure.
