The family of 23-year-old Maria is devastated after she tragically lost her life in the early hours of the morning in Malia, Crete

The young woman was fatally struck when a 27-year-old Egyptian motorcyclist veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the scooter Maria was riding.

Friends of the victim, speaking to protorhema.gr, described her as an admirable young woman from Hersonissos who, despite her age, worked tirelessly to support her family.

Maria was beloved by colleagues and acquaintances alike, winning the respect and hearts of those she worked with.

How the Fatal Accident Happened
Footage from Crete TV shows the 27-year-old riding at high speed before crossing into the opposite lane of Grammatikaki Street, where he crashed head-on into Maria’s scooter.

The collision was violent, killing the young woman instantly despite the fact that she was wearing a helmet.

The accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on a narrow road. According to reports, Maria did not have a driver’s license and was employed at a local nightclub.

An ambulance rushed to the scene, but paramedics could only confirm her death.

The 27-Year-Old Driver Arrested
The 27-year-old motorcyclist, who also lacked a driver’s license and was not wearing a helmet, was arrested.
