Sailing countdown: AEGEAN REGATTA 2025 sets sail across the Aegean

From August 23 to 30, 2025, more than 55 Greek and international sailing yachts will embark on the 24th edition of the prestigious AEGEAN REGATTA, racing across the stunning seas of the Northern and Northeastern Aegean

The AEGEAN REGATTA is not just another sailing race — it is the premier international offshore regatta of the Aegean Sea, a summer tradition that blends competition, culture, and the timeless beauty of the Greek islands.

Organized by the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy in cooperation with the Offshore Racing Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation and regional yacht clubs, the regatta will once again highlight the Aegean’s strong nautical heritage. For 2025, the lead coordinating club is the Lesvos Sailing Club.

Route & Schedule

This year’s regatta will launch from Myrina, Lemnos, with stopovers at Agios Efstratios and Plomari, Lesvos, before concluding in the lively port of Mytilene. Over one week, participants and visitors will experience not only thrilling races but also the warm hospitality and traditions of the Aegean islands.

Full Program – AEGEAN REGATTA 2025:

  • Saturday, Aug 23 – Registrations & inspections in Myrina
  • Sunday, Aug 24 – Registrations, skippers’ briefing, and Opening Ceremony in Myrina
  • Monday, Aug 25 – Offshore Race: Myrina → Agios Efstratios (≈ 21 nautical miles), Awards in Agios Efstratios
  • Tuesday, Aug 26 – Offshore Race: Agios Efstratios → Plomari, Lesvos (≈ 76 nm)
  • Wednesday, Aug 27 – Rest day in Plomari
  • Thursday, Aug 28 – Coastal Race in Plomari (≈ 10 nm), Awards in Plomari
  • Friday, Aug 29 – Offshore Race: Plomari → Mytilene (≈ 20 nm)
  • Saturday, Aug 30 – Coastal Race in Mytilene (≈ 8 nm), Closing Ceremony in Mytilene

Manolis Koutoulakis, General Secretary of the Aegean and Island Policy, emphasized the cultural and emotional depth of the regatta:

“For 23 years, the AEGEAN REGATTA has been uniting people, cultures, and seas. This year’s journey will showcase the history, flavors, and artistry of Lemnos, Agios Efstratios, Plomari, and Mytilene. The regatta is not just a race — it is a voyage through history, heritage, and friendship.”

Kostas Kalogeropoulos, President of the Offshore Racing Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, highlighted the regatta’s broader significance:

  • Plomari, birthplace of Greece’s iconic ouzo and maritime craftsmanship
  • Mytilene, the vibrant capital of Lesvos, home to poets and artists
