Over 100 Greek Companies Already Active in Qatar, Mainly in Construction, Shipping, and Logistics

Newsroom June 16 08:30

“Qatar and Greece maintain long-standing relations based on mutual respect, adherence to international law, and a shared commitment to progress, peace, and regional stability,” stated Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Mr. Tasos Hatzivasileiou, during his official working visit to Doha. He is accompanied by Ms. Stelina Siarapi, Secretary General for Private Investments at the Ministry of Development, as part of the 1st Session of the Greece-Qatar Joint Interministerial Committee for Economic and Technical Cooperation.

Mr. Hatzivasileiou co-chaired the committee with Qatar’s Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, emphasizing the strategic importance of cooperation between the two nations. In his opening remarks, after conveying greetings from the Greek Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, he spoke about Greece’s economic progress, reforms that have strengthened growth prospects, and specific investment tools available in the country. He also referred to the activities of Enterprise Greece, the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations (HCAP), and the new Development Law as key parts of the government’s investment strategy.

Greece as an Attractive Investment Destination

“Greece is an attractive investment destination in several sectors, including logistics, transportation, real estate, and tourism, as well as agriculture, energy, and pharmaceuticals,” Mr. Hatzivasileiou stressed while outlining the investment opportunities offered by the Greek economy.

The Deputy Minister highlighted that over 100 Greek companies are already operating in Qatar, mainly in the sectors of construction, shipping, and logistics, and underscored Greece’s geostrategic position as a pillar of stability and a gateway to the Balkans, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Black Sea.

He also invited the Qatari side to organize an official business mission to Greece, including participation from the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), aiming to host a high-level bilateral investment forum in Athens to facilitate direct networking and partnerships with Greek companies.
