Newsroom May 14 08:54

Ygeiamou.gr and PROTO THEMA are organizing the 6th Health Conference on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Lighthouse – Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, with the theme: “Health Ecosystem: Strategies and Challenges in a Changing World.”

Boletis: The Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center maintains its share of cardiac surgeries (2,000 procedures annually) and is expanding into areas such as hereditary diseases. While it initially operated independently for heart transplants, in 2020 it began performing lung transplants. Now, with the donation from the Onassis Foundation, the pediatric department is being developed, and secondly, the center is progressing towards transplants of all organs.

Panel starts with the topic “Planning the New Hospital Map: Challenges and Opportunities”

  • Marios Themistocleous, Deputy Minister of Health
  • Ioannis Boletis, President of Onassis Cardiac Center, Emeritus Professor, Medical School, NKUA
  • Anastasia Kotanidou, Professor of Intensive Care, Medical School of Athens, NKUA
  • Pantelis Mesaropoulos, President of the Center for Documentation of Costing of Nursing Services (KETEKNY)

Moderator: Journalist Panayota Karlatira

Brejanis: Patients will benefit from improved and more effective care, as well as from digital applications that will facilitate their disease management.
The “smart hospitals” project concerns the procurement, installation, commissioning, training, maintenance, and support of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in hospitals funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). These hospitals are the General Hospital of Komotini, the University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, and the General Hospital of Sparti.

It includes implementing innovative solutions for the first time in Greek public hospitals, such as digital patient monitoring systems in ICUs, digital management systems for surgeries and anesthesia, digital tools for managing pathological and anatomical data, digital tools supporting sterilization departments, telemedicine and telecollaboration infrastructures for doctors, digital tools for patients, and entertainment systems for patients.

The “Integrated System for the Care of Oncology and Hematology Patients” represents a significant step in the digital transformation of Greece’s healthcare sector. For the first time, the National Registry of Neoplastic Diseases and the Therapeutic Oncology and Hematology Protocols will be implemented at a national level.

Patients will benefit from improved and more efficient care, as well as from digital applications that will ease their disease management. The medical community will see strengthened interdisciplinary communication and collaboration, support in decision-making, and faster access to data and records. Additionally, scientific research and knowledge exchange will be enhanced at both national and European levels. For the State, the project means increased efficiency of the healthcare system through the implementation of standardized procedures, oversight and evaluation of provided services, and collection of high-quality data.

The contribution of Nova ICT to the digital transformation of healthcare
On this moment, the speaker is Alexandros Brejanis, CEO of NOVA ICT.

Pierrekakis: Demographics will be one of the biggest issues we will face in the coming years.
Demographics will be one of the major challenges ahead. It has affected every policy sector, such as health. The first article by Friedman in The New York Times after the first memorandum stated that if you see Greeks leaving, sell; if they return, buy. We are reversing the Brain Drain. The goal is to become a talent generator across the entire supply chain. We will support, within our capabilities, every sector that adds value to our economy.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, leaders of the Ministries of Health, Economy, and Digital Governance, the president of SYRIZA-PS, Socrates Famellos, distinguished members of the scientific community, as well as representatives of the pharmaceutical sector, will discuss the health, social, technological, and economic challenges of the modern era. The goal is to shape the optimal strategy and address the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

The proceedings of the conference will be broadcast via livestream on the websites www.protothema.gr and www.ygeiamou.gr in Greek.
