The last of the Easter holidaymakers are returning from the countryside, with the traffic police on patrol on the country’s road network to ensure the safe movement of citizens and prevent road accidents.

The return of Easter holidaymakers from the Region to Attica is underway

At this time (15:00), increased traffic is recorded on the highways. Vehicles are moving at low speeds at the entrance to the National Road Athens-Corinthos and at the Rio toll.

Drivers are also inconvenienced from the height of the Corinth Isthmus to Agioi Theodoroi and from the tunnels in Kakia Skala to the SEA of Megara.

Drivers will encounter traffic jams downstream of Kifissos, from Nea Erythraia to the height of Metamorphosis, while minor delays are also recorded on Attiki Odos.

It is recalled that on Easter Sunday
, according to traffic police data, 61,786 vehicles returned to Athens (33,058 vehicles from Athens-Corinth and 28,728 from Athens-Lamia). In the same period last year, 48,925 cars were returned.

Boat routes

Today, dozens of ship arrivals are expected at the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio.

Specifically:

-12 arrivals at the Tzelepis coast in the port of Piraeus (14,267 passengers)

-39 arrivals from the Argosaronikos (15,630 passengers)

-13 arrivals at the port of Rafina (11,157 passengers)

-8 sailings to the port of Lavrio (4,840 passengers)

From early Monday morning, the mass return of Easter holidaymakers to urban centres had begun, with the Traffic Police implementing enhanced measures throughout the national road network to ensure the smooth and safe movement of citizens, as well as to avoid traffic accidents.

The biggest problems were observed on the route from the Peloponnese to Athens, with travellers armed with patient,e as there were queues of cars and long waits at many points on the national network.
