US: “Musk will remain Trump advisor – TikTok sale on track”, says JD Vance

April 5 is the deadline for the acquisition of TikTok by a non-Chinese investor in order to avoid the interruption of its operation in the US

Newsroom April 3 05:00

Elon Musk will remain a friend and adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance even after he leaves his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Vance said in an interview with Fox News on Thursday.

Politico and ABC reported Wednesday that Trump had told members of his Cabinet that Musk would soon leave the government and return to the private sector, though it was unclear whether he would leave before his 130-day term as a special government employee expires around the end of May.

“DOGE has a lot of work to do, and yes, that work will continue after Elon leaves. But basically, Elon will remain a friend and adviser to both me and the president,” the U.S. vice president said.

Vance also touched on the TikTok ownership negotiations, saying they are “well on track ahead of the April 5 deadline” to reach an agreement on non-Chinese ownership.

“It will be completed before the deadline. I think we are in a good place. We will continue to work on it, we need a couple more days,” he said.

When asked about a possible run for president in the 2028 U.S. election, Vance said he is not yet considering a run and is focused on completing his current duties.
