The President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, from the plenary in Strasbourg, spoke about the informal meeting on Cyprus in Geneva, calling it an important step and a dynamic that can be turned into hope.

As Ms Metsola said, “The Informal Meeting on Cyprus held in Geneva last March was an important step towards the reunification of the island. Parliament strongly supports the UN-led process because we know that dialogue and diplomacy is the only way to a viable solution. We remain committed to supporting Cyprus on its journey towards reunification, and this was my message to President Christodoulides and UN Secretary General Guterres when we met in Brussels. We must now seize this momentum and turn opportunity into hope.”

Speaking from the floor of the plenary, the President of the European Parliament expressed Europe’s support for Cyprus, saying that “Europe will always stand by Cyprus as we seek ways forward. The road to reunification is not easy, but it is a road we will walk together – with patience, with perseverance and with the understanding that our generation can be the ones to find the way forward.”
