Marinakis: Under the current circumstances with the arrest of Imamoglu, it is difficult to promptly organize a Greece-Turkey cooperation council

"The foreign ministers of the two countries will coincide at the NATO summit on April 3–4, and will discuss the relevant matters there"

Newsroom March 24 01:08

Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis described the possibility of promptly organizing a high-level Greece-Turkey cooperation council as difficult, when asked about the government’s stance regarding the situation in the neighboring country following the arrest and pre-trial detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu and the likelihood of convening the council or a meeting between Mitsotakis and Erdoğan.

“We are monitoring developments in Turkey, where the situation remains fluid and concerning,” the government spokesman initially stated.

As he stressed, “Our position remains unwavering that concessions on the rule of law cannot be tolerated, and convincing answers are required for any alleged violation. Within this context, it is difficult to promptly organize the high-level Greece-Turkey cooperation council.”

“The foreign ministers of the two countries will coincide at the NATO summit on April 3–4, and will discuss the relevant matters there,” Mr. Marinakis concluded.
