Newsroom February 28 03:42

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in cities across Greece today to mark two years since the Tempi tragedy (28/2).

In Athens, the city center was flooded with people of all ages. From early morning, metro and train stations were packed as crowds made their way to the demonstration.

Parents with their children, students, and people of all generations gathered in Syntagma Square to honor the 57 victims who lost their lives two years ago.

A deeply emotional moment came when classmates of the victims read aloud the names of all 57 deceased. The entire square responded with “present” after each name, and at the end, they all shouted “Immortal” in unison.

The first to speak at the gathering were student representatives, as the majority of the victims were young people returning home or to their universities on that fateful night. They all demanded swift justice, insisting that accountability must be served to honor the memory of the dead and the struggle of the victims’ families to uncover the full truth behind the tragedy. Student representatives also pledged their solidarity with all efforts to seek justice.

At the same time, emotions ran high as parents of the victims took the floor, met with applause from the crowd. Many speakers paid tribute to the survivors, acknowledging the physical and emotional scars they still carry.
