Agapidaki: Bridging health inequalities with mobile health units

She visited Ormenio, the northernmost village of our country, where she chose to launch the Mobile Health Units' operations.

Newsroom February 13 02:53

Deputy Minister of Health Eirini Agapidaki visited Evros today, Thursday, February 13, marking the official launch of the Mobile Health Units (KOMY), an innovative service that strengthens Primary Healthcare by offering free basic medical and preventive check-ups to residents of remote areas across the country.

Specifically, Ms. Agapidaki traveled to Ormenio, the northernmost village of Greece, where she chose to kickstart the Mobile Health Units’ operations, emphasizing the importance of equal access to healthcare services for all citizens, regardless of their geographic location. The Mobile Health Units conducted their first medical check-ups on local residents before making house calls to vulnerable groups (elderly, pregnant women, etc.) in Ormenio, Dilofo, and Krios.

The Deputy Minister was welcomed and accompanied throughout her visit by Christodoulos Topsidis, Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace; Evangelos Poulilios, Deputy Regional Governor of Evros; Georgios Dalakouras, Thematic Deputy Regional Governor for Health and Family Policy; Adamantios Papadopoulos, Mayor of Orestiada; as well as the local community leaders of Ormenio and Petrota, Stratis Vasileiadis and Tasos Kasapidis, respectively. Also present were Christos Chatzichristodoulou, President of the National Public Health Organization (EODY), and Dimitris Chatzigeorgiou, CEO of EODY.

As part of her visit, Ms. Agapidaki held a press conference at the Orestiada Town Hall.
“Our primary concern is citizens who experience health inequalities. We want to ensure that all citizens, no matter where they live, have access to quality healthcare services,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
“The Mobile Health Units prove in practice that healthcare knows no geographic boundaries. They help bridge health inequalities by bringing essential medical, preventive, and care services closer to those who need them most. With this initiative, we take another step to ensure that no one is left behind. Health is a right, not a privilege,” she added.

Tomorrow, Friday, February 14, Ms. Agapidaki will accompany the Mobile Health Units to three villages (Dikaia, Ptelea, Petrota), where they will provide medical check-ups to residents and conduct home visits as well.
