Ballerina dances on a ship’s ‘bulb’ amid Antarctic ice – Watch stunning video

French dancer Victoria Dauberville and her partner, artist Mathieu Forget, created a breathtaking performance that looks surreal—so much so that many believed it was AI-generated. However, every moment captured is entirely real

Newsroom January 29 01:39

In a viral video with over 4 million views, Dauberville performs mesmerizing dance moves atop the iron protrusion—known as the “bulbous bow”—of a cruise ship sailing through the icy waters of Antarctica. Her graceful movements, set against the harsh and unforgiving landscape, led many to assume the footage was digitally altered.

However, Dauberville and Forget clarify that every frame is authentic. Forget, known as “The Flying Man” for his iconic gravity-defying athlete photography, captured this moment as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games project.

The couple was invited aboard the Ponant cruise ship to Antarctica, where they saw an opportunity to merge movement artistry with the raw beauty of nature. “Antarctica felt like a reset—a blank canvas. I wanted to step away from the competitive sports world and reconnect with pure creativity,” Forget told Bored Panda.

With the crew’s approval, the duo climbed onto the ship’s bulbous bow while the vessel was strategically positioned among the ice for the perfect backdrop. Before filming, they conducted test runs in South Georgia to assess the surface’s stability and prepare for the extreme weather challenges.

“The conditions were brutal—freezing temperatures, strong winds, the constant motion of the ship—but when we saw the final result, we knew it was all worth it,” Forget said. The video captivated audiences, and the couple even shared behind-the-scenes footage on social media to prove its authenticity. “Showing that it was real was something we were incredibly proud of,” he added.

The success of this “frozen” performance inspired the creation of two exclusive, signed, and numbered prints featuring the breathtaking images. “Our journey to Antarctica became a metaphor for venturing into the unknown—a reminder that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places,” Forget concluded.
