Showers and African dust coming next weekend – Slight rise in temperature

Showers are expected in Greece over the next two days while, according to the National Weather Service, meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust.

According to Thodoris Kolydas, in the coming days, rain is expected initially in the west, the eastern islands and the southern coastal sea areas and gradually in the rest of the regions, while sporadic thunderstorms will occur in the Ionian Sea and the east and south.

“On Wednesday, local showers initially in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Sterea and gradually in Thessaly, Macedonia and Thrace, with sporadic thunderstorms in the NW. On Thursday, showers initially in the west, eastern islands and southern maritime coastal sections and gradually in the remaining areas, while sporadic thunderstorms will occur in the Ionian Sea and the east and south. On Friday in the east and south, in the east and south, partly cloudy with local showers and gradual improvement. In the remaining areas a few clouds, mainly in the morning hours. On Saturday, almost clear weather throughout the country with a few occasional clouds, while on Sunday from noon onwards, showers and thunderstorms are forecast from the west to the east,” he said in his post.

The weather on Wednesday (29/1)

Initially in the west and gradually in the central and northern mainland clouds, partly cloudy with local showers mainly in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Sterea and gradually in Thessaly, Macedonia and Thrace. Sporadic thunderstorms will occur from time to time in the northwest. In the rest of the country, a few clouds, increasing in places, with a possibility of light rain in the eastern islands and the southern maritime and coastal areas.

Some snow is likely to fall in the northern continental mountains in the evening hours. Meteorological conditions favour the transport of African dust. Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be limited in places and in the continental areas in the morning hours local fog will form.

Winds will blow from southern directions 4 to 5 and in the sea 6, locally up to 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly and will be higher for the season. It will reach 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in the north, 18 to 19 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country and locally in the south 20 degrees Celsius.

Winds will blow from the south at 4 to 6 Beaufort. In the afternoon hours in the west and at night in all mainland Greece except Thrace, northwest winds of 4 to 5 Beaufort will prevail.

The temperature will drop slightly in terms of its maximum values mainly in the west where it will not exceed 13 to 15 degrees Celsius, while in the rest of the country it will remain at seasonally higher levels and will reach 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
