Farmers: Joint coordination for the escalation of their mobilizations

The blockades are spreading, so far 18 have been set up across the country - Next week is expected to be a national meeting

Newsroom January 28 09:45

After the first days of their mobilizations, farmers are coordinating and escalating their struggle with joint actions. At the Pan-Tessalian meeting that took place yesterday in Tyrnavos, Larissa, the blockades that have been formed on the national and provincial network of Thessaly decided in a coordinated manner, starting today and every afternoon, to symbolically block the points where they are located.

Thus, today at 6 pm, farmers at the E65 blockades in Karditsa and Girtoni, on the PATHE outside Larissa, will proceed to a simultaneous blockade with tractors or on foot. The other blockades that have been formed in Thessaly will also be aligned with this decision. These are blockades at the Megalochori junction in Trikala (Larissa – Ioannina highway), in Rizomilos Magnesia (old highway Larissa – Volos), in Gerakari Larissa (Larissa – Agias provincial road) and Mikro Eleftherochori Elassona (Larissa – Kozani highway).

But the farmers have also decided on actions in the cities. On Wednesday afternoon the farmers who have lined up their tractors on the E65 will enter Karditsa with their agricultural machinery. The same action will be taken by farmers in Larissa next Friday. In addition, next Saturday it was decided to open the toll roads and allow free passage of vehicles.

Blockades are spreading throughout Greece

So far a total of 18 blockades have been set up across the country. Yesterday, farmers formed a blockade in Malgara in Thessaloniki and in the coming days blockades are expected to be set up in other parts of Macedonia and Evros. The farmers aim to pressure the government to succeed in winning some of their demands such as lower production costs and better prices for their products.

According to their plan, a public meeting is expected to be held next week so that the farmers can determine their next moves in pushing for the resolution of their demands.
