6.9 magnitude earthquake in southern Japan – Tsunami warning issued

The tremor was felt as far away as Osaka - At the moment, there are no reports of casualties or damage

An earthquake measuring 6.9 magnitudes occurred near the southeastern coast of the Japanese island of Kyushu and tremors were felt in several areas, including Osaka.

According to the Meteorological Agency of Japan, the earthquake was recorded at 9:19 p.m. local time. The source was located at a depth of 30 kilometers underwater.

The strong tremors that followed were felt across Kyushu Island, Shikoku Island, and over a large area from Hiroshima City to Osaka.

Meanwhile, a tsunami warning of up to one meter was issued for the east coast of Kyushu Island and the south coast of Shikoku Island. A tidal wave warning of up to 20 centimeters was put in effect for Amami, Tokara, Tanegashima, Yakushima, and several areas of Honshu Island.
