Electricity prices down in January despite Kremlin ‘aftershocks’

From 15.5 to 18.9 cents per kilowatt hour

Newsroom January 2 09:22

The Kremlin’s “aftershocks” to international gas prices, following the expiration of a five-year agreement to transit Russian gas through Ukraine, are leaving electricity tariffs unaffected for January.

The prices announced gradually since the day before yesterday by suppliers show a mixed picture as vertically integrated suppliers kept prices almost at the same level or even slightly lower than in December while tariffs at non-vertically integrated suppliers show small fluctuations.

This was also due to the lower average wholesale price, which in December stood at EUR 129 per megawatt-hour, down from EUR 137 in November.

So for January, prices start at 15.5 and go up to 18.9 euro cents per kilowatt hour.

On New Year’s Eve, the PPC announced a slightly reduced price for the New Year, setting the green special tariff at 15.4 cents (down from 15.5 cents last month) for the first 500 kilowatt-hours and 16.4 cents for above-mentioned threshold partially increased from the previous month. Similarly, the charge for the night tariff has dropped by 1.5 cents to 13 cents (from 14.5 cents in December).
