Donald Trump: Greek-American Michael Kratsios, Head of Science and Technology Policy

Kratsios also served in the previous Republican administration as chief technology officer

Greek-American Michael Kratsios has been chosen by Donald Trump to fill the role of Director for Science and Technology Policy in the new administration that will take office in January.

Kratsios had also served in the Republican’s previous administration as chief technology officer.

Kratsios himself, in a post, thanked Trump, saying:

Thank you, Mr. President for the honor of serving in your White House again, this time as Assistant to the President for Science & Technology and for the nomination to be Director of OSTP. To ensure our Nation’s prosperity and security, we must unleash scientific breakthroughs… pic.twitter.com/YbPYLHuNk7

 Who is Michael Kratsios

Michael John Kotsakas Kratsios was born on November 7, 1986 in Columbia, and is originally from Chios and Kastoria. He graduated from Richland North East High School in Columbia, South Carolina in 2004 and from Princeton University in 2008 with a degree in political science and a certificate in Greek Studies. He was a visiting scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

He joined the White House in 2017 during the Trump administration and assumed the role of United States Chief Technology Officer and Deputy Assistant to the President at the Office of Science and Technology in March 2019. On August 1, 2019, the U.S. Senate unanimously elected him as the fourth U.S. Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Under his leadership, the White House hosted the U.S. Leadership Summit on New Technologies during Technology Week in June 2017. Mr. Kratsius led the U.S. government’s efforts in AI and spearheaded the White House’s efforts to integrate drones into the national airspace system.

In September 2017, Kratsios led the U.S. delegation to the G7 ministerial meeting in Turin, Italy. In August 2018, Kratsios led the U.S. delegation to the G20 Digital Economy Ministerial in Argentina.
