Blinken: The U.S. will recognize Syria’s future government

"All nations must commit to supporting an inclusive and transparent process and abstain from any external interference," emphasized Blinken in his statement

Newsroom December 10 09:00

The United States fully supports the process of political transition in Syria and aims for it to lead to a credible, inclusive, and non-sectarian governance that adheres to international standards of transparency and accountability, stated U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“The Syrian people will decide the future of Syria. All nations must commit to supporting an inclusive and transparent process and abstain from any external interference,” Blinken noted in his announcement.

Blinken assured that the United States “will recognize and fully support the future government” that emerges from this process.

“The transitional process and the new government must also adhere to clear commitments to fully respect minority rights, facilitate humanitarian assistance to all in need, prevent Syria from being used as a base for terrorists or a threat to its neighbors, and ensure the safe destruction of any chemical or biological weapons,” he added.
