Saturday weather alert: Thunderstorms, strong north winds, and cooler temperatures

The strong phenomena will occur in western, northern Greece and the eastern Aegean Sea

Saturday’s Weather Forecast

The day begins with significant showers and thunderstorms in western and northern Greece, which will gradually move eastward by midday. Snowfall is possible in western Macedonia, mainly at elevations above 600 meters, starting in the afternoon. By evening, weather conditions will improve, but strong north winds will prevail, particularly in the Ionian and Aegean Seas and across the mainland.

Wind Conditions

  • West: Winds from the northwest at 5 to 7 Beaufort, reaching 8 Beaufort locally in the Ionian Sea. These will weaken by evening.
  • East: Initially southwest winds at 5 to 7 Beaufort, shifting to northwesterly at 6 to 8 Beaufort, with evening weakening in northeastern areas.

Temperature

  • A notable temperature drop will begin in northern and central Greece by afternoon, extending to the rest of the country by evening.
    • North: Highs of 12°C, with lows around -3°C to 3°C.
    • Central and South: 16–20°C, reaching up to 23°C in the Dodecanese.
    • Evening minimums will reflect the cooling trend across all regions.

Regional Highlights:

Macedonia & Thrace:

  • Gradual clearing by midday in Macedonia and by afternoon in Thrace.
  • Temperatures: 0°C to 12°C (2–3°C lower in western Macedonia).

Ionian Sea, Epirus, Western Sterea & Peloponnese:

  • Mostly clear weather by noon.
  • Temperatures: 3°C to 16°C (lower by 4–5°C in Epirus).

Eastern Sterea, Evia & Eastern Peloponnese:

  • Early morning showers, potentially with isolated thunderstorms in Sterea, will clear quickly.
  • Temperatures: 6°C to 19°C, locally 20°C in the south.

Cyclades & Crete:

  • Light rain expected in northern Crete by afternoon; otherwise, improving conditions.
  • Temperatures: 12°C to 21°C.

Eastern Aegean Islands & Dodecanese:

  • Gradual clearing from the north, with mild evening clouds.
  • Temperatures: 4–5°C lower than usual.

Thessaly:

  • Weather clears by the afternoon.
  • Temperatures: 2°C to 13°C.

Attica:

  • Clear skies from the afternoon onward.
  • Temperatures: 7°C to 19°C.

Thessaloniki:

  • Weather improves by noon.
  • Temperatures: 3°C to 12°C.

Sunday to Wednesday Outlook

The weather will remain calm and sunny, with no significant phenomena expected. However, another temperature drop is predicted between November 29 and December 4, with occasional snowfall in the northern mountains of western Macedonia.
