A 20-year-old tourist’s attempt in Indonesia to take photos against a backdrop of spectacular waves at Kedung Tumpang beach ended tragically as one of them “swallowed” him up, leaving him still missing.

The tragic incident occurred last Sunday when Roni Josua Simanjuntak went to a beach with his friends.

A video recorded by eyewitnesses has captured the moment a wave covered him and swept him away into the Indian Ocean.

Initially, the video shows a 20-year-old standing in front of a rock, posing to capture the perfect photo.

What he didn’t realize, however, was that the waves behind him were “swelling” and posed a serious threat.

In just a few seconds, one of the waves knocked the young man off the rock and out of sight of his friends, who initially laughed at the unexpected turn of events.

However, their laughter quickly turned to concern as they realized he had vanished.

Shortly after, the person recording the scene spotted a body on the surface of the water, believed to be that of the 20-year-old.

As of today, the young man has not been found, and authorities have announced that the search will conclude next Sunday.

A police spokesman indicated that waves in the area are reaching heights of up to 4.5 meters, creating significant challenges for rescue crews.
