Volos Community in Shock Over Alleged Serial Killer of Stray Animals

"We're investigating whether these horrific acts are the work of a single individual or a group of perpetrators," stated a local shopkeeper

Newsroom October 2 07:45

The community of Volos is grappling with horror and disbelief as authorities intensify their investigation into an alleged serial killer targeting stray animals. Local police are systematically working to track down the suspect responsible for a series of brutal attacks on vulnerable animals in the area.

In a tragic incident last week, a dog was fatally attacked with a sharp object at the junction of Spyridi and Karoloi streets. The situation worsened on Monday, September 30, when a kitten was found stabbed in a relatively busy area, leading investigators to believe the same perpetrator was behind both attacks.

CCTV Footage Captures Disturbing Attack

The police have obtained chilling CCTV footage that shows the suspected killer in action. The video, recorded on St. Nicholas Street, depicts the assailant wearing a hood as he ambushes the innocent kitten. In a calculated move, he approaches the kitten, seemingly to feed it in an attempt to calm it down, before fatally wounding it with a sharp object. The kitten, shocked and injured, attempts to flee but ultimately succumbs to its wounds.

“This kitten was the mascot of our neighborhood. We fed it and took care of it. It chose us and never caused any trouble,” lamented a local shop owner whose premises are near where the cat was found. Speaking to Taxydromos.gr, the owner expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the beloved animal.

Citizens have reported a surge in similar incidents, with at least ten attacks involving three dogs and seven cats documented over the past two weeks. Dimitra Youvanidi, a shopkeeper in the area, has been proactive in alerting the police about these incidents. “I have informed the police, and investigations have been underway for days. We are trying to determine whether one person or a group is responsible for these atrocities. I have also reached out to local veterinarians to ensure any similar incidents are reported to the authorities,” she stated, recalling a distressing encounter with a kitten that had sustained a deep knife wound on Ermou Street.

As the investigation continues, the Volos community is on high alert, urging residents to keep an eye on their pets and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
