GSEE: General strike on 20 November

The Union Announces Strike Over Soaring Prices, Rent, Housing Market Costs, and Collective Labor Law

Newsroom September 30 05:10

The implementation of a 24-hour General strike for Wednesday, November 20, 2024, was decided by the Plenary of the GSEE, which met today with the central issues of dealing with the price increase, the increased prices of rents and the housing market, and the restoration of Collective Labour Law.

The Confederation accuses the government of not taking any meaningful measures to address these issues that plague workers and of implementing regulations that are gigantic in their problems.

In particular, the Plenary of GSEE decided:

– to hold a 24-hour general strike on Wednesday, November 20, 2024

– The implementation of an information campaign, which will be launched immediately in all regions of the country, with particular emphasis on Athens and Thessaloniki, with the aim of mass and united participation in the 24-hour General Strike.

“The Government fails to implement policies that strengthen the purchasing power of workers, which has decreased by 8% since 2019. Subsidy policies and passes unfortunately do not solve the problems. Immediate measures are needed to address the oligopolistic market formation and cartels, re-regulation of labor relations and Collective Labour Law, and implementation of social housing programs with the 1.5 billion reserve from the former Labour House.

These measures meet the real needs of private sector workers and we will fight for the implementation of these measures,” it said in a statement.
