Christos Nikolopoulos: Celebrating 60 years in music with a concert at Herodion

Renowned performers to sing his hits

Newsroom July 12 10:01

Christos Nikolopoulos, one of Greece’s most significant folk composers, is set to celebrate his 60-year music career with a grand concert on Saturday, September 7, at the Herodion Theatre.

This special evening under the Acropolis will feature popular singers who have collaborated with Nikolopoulos over the years. Glykeria, Stelios Dionysiou, Peggy Zina, Kostas Makedonas, and Pitsa Papadopoulou will perform some of his most beloved songs.

Additionally, distinguished composer Stamatis Kraounakis and legendary singer Giorgos Dalaras will honor him with their presence.

The artistic direction and presentation of the event will be managed by renowned theater and arts figure Ieroklis Michailidis, with maestro Nikos Stratigos conducting the orchestra.

The event will also feature the Spyros Lambros Children’s Choir and a bouzouki ensemble from the Music School of Ilion, adding their unique energy to the celebration.

Nikolopoulos dedicates this concert to the great Markos Vamvakaris, paying tribute to one of the cornerstones of Greek culture.

Born and raised in Kapsochori, Imathia, Christos Nikolopoulos is a self-taught musician with an innate talent for folk music. Moving to Athens, he quickly gained recognition and admiration, collaborating with the giants of his time and leaving a lasting legacy influenced by figures like Vamvakaris, Tsitsanis, Papaioannou, and Zambetas.

A master of the bouzouki, Nikolopoulos has marked 60 continuous years of his career with notable collaborations, setting music to the profound lyrics of Lefteris Papadopoulos, Pythagoras, Manos Eleftheriou, Manolis Rasoulis, Antonis Andrikakis, Lina Nikolakopoulou, and many other great poets.
