38 fires in the last 24 hours – Scattered outbreaks in Vonitsa and Preveza, raging fire in Paros

32 were dealt with immediately at their initial stage, while firefighters are battling six more

There were 38 agroforestry fires that broke out across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the fire department.

Of those, 32 were immediately treated at their initial stage, while firefighters are treating six more. In addition, five of them required the assistance of air assets to deal with them.

According to Civil Protection sources, firefighting forces are dealing with scattered outbreaks in the fires in Pogonia of Vonitsa and Kanalaki of Preveza, while the fires in Soufli of Evros and Magoula of Attica have been brought under control.

More specifically as the same sources report :

– At 11:47 a fire broke out in dry grass within a building site in Aspropyrgos, Attica. The fire has been controlled and 18 firefighters, 1 hiking team, 4 vehicles and 1 helicopter operated at the scene.

– At 12:16 a fire broke out in agricultural land in the municipality of Aktion-Vonitsa in the area of Pogonia. The fire brigade forces are currently facing several scattered outbreaks and 53 firefighters, 3 groups of hiking teams, 14 vehicles, 6 aircraft and 1 helicopter are operating to extinguish the fire, while project machinery and water carriers of the local authorities are also assisting.

– At 14:18 a fire broke out in a forest area in Kanalaki Parga. Firefighting forces are dealing with scattered outbreaks and 45 firefighters, 2 teams of hiking teams, 14 vehicles and 6 aircraft are operating at the site.

– At 14:30 a fire broke out in a forest area in Soufli Evros. The fire has been controlled and 33 firefighters, with 1 team of hiking section, 10 vehicles, 3 aircraft and 2 helicopters have been engaged to extinguish the fire. Assistance was provided by project machinery and public utility companies.

– At 15:07 a fire broke out in low vegetation in Magoula of Elefsina. The fire has been controlled and 35 firefighters, 1 hiking team, 11 vehicles and 3 helicopters operated at the site, while there was also assistance from project machinery and water carriers of OTAs.

In addition, a fire is ongoing at a commercial site in the area of Archilochos in Paros. According to the fire brigade, the fire broke out at around 17.52 in a business premises with wooden frames, while it does not threaten any residential properties. 13 firefighters with 5 vehicles are operating at the scene. Hydrofoils of OTAs are providing assistance.

It is noted that the local investigative offices, as well as teams of the Directorate of Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires. Finally, the fire brigade urges all citizens to be particularly careful and, in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
