Filippidis’ first statements after the trial postponement: We will say everything once the case is over

The trial is set for November 11 - Papacharalambous and Drosaki were present in court - He had been found guilty of the two attempted rapes

Newsroom June 3 01:12

The court postponed the trial, accepting the request from Filippidis’ lawyers, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos and Kiki Pakiartzidou. Earlier, the prosecutor had also requested to accept the postponement, noting that the conflict cited by the two lawyers (their participation in other trials in the provinces) was justified.

In contrast, the lawyer supporting the accusation, Haris Saloustros, asked the court to consider an adjournment request instead of a postponement. “We want to finish the trial; each time it revives wounds,” the lawyer said on behalf of his client and the victim. Ultimately, the trial was postponed, and the decision for postponement was made by a majority vote.

It is recalled that in the first instance, Petros Filippidis was found not guilty due to doubts regarding the primary and more severe charge of repeated rape but was found guilty of the two attempted rapes for which he will now be retried.

The initial court decision was issued in February 2023, sentencing the actor to 8 years in prison for the two acts he was found guilty of. The first-instance court had rejected Filippidis’ request for recognition of two mitigating circumstances but granted him a suspension of his sentence pending appeal.
