Greece – Weather: Temperature is rising from today, African dust returns

Where we should expect rain

Newsroom April 22 12:45

Weather conditions are changing again as, following the snow and storms that hit several areas of Greece in the past 24 hours, temperatures are rising again, along with dust and humidity.

From today until Wednesday, meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust with increased concentrations in the atmosphere, while temperatures are gradually rising and expected to reach and exceed 30 degrees Celsius, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS).

Additionally, tomorrow in the Ionian Sea, mainland Greece (including Attica and Thessaloniki), and the northern Aegean, there will be mud showers.

Forecast for Tuesday, April 23, 2024:
In central and northern mainland Greece, and temporarily in the Ionian Sea, as well as the rest of the mainland and the northern Aegean, clouds with rain are expected. Isolated thunderstorms will occur mainly in central and northern mainland areas, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Sparse clouds, occasionally denser, are forecasted for the rest of the country. Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust with increased concentrations in the atmosphere. Winds will be east-northeastern at 4 to 6 Beaufort in the north and northeast, and south-southeasterly at 7 to 8 Beaufort in the south. From the afternoon, they will gradually turn to northwesterly at 4 to 6 Beaufort in the west and locally 7 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea. The temperature will rise mainly in the west and south. It will reach 21 to 23 degrees Celsius in the north, 24 to 27 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country, and locally 29 to 30 degrees Celsius in northern Crete.
