France: Knife attack near a school – 2 girls slightly injured

The attacker was arrested, according to police

Newsroom April 18 05:26

Two girls aged 5 and 11 were slightly injured today in a knife attack near their school in Suffolk, eastern France, the French Agency reported citing converging sources.

According to police, the 11-year-old girl was stabbed in front of the school, while the other, was attacked with a knife in a nearby square.

Having sustained “superficial injuries” they were taken to hospital. The perpetrator, 28, was arrested.

The school management cordoned off the building and the children remained in their classrooms.

Outside the school, dozens of parents waited patiently while fire trucks and law enforcement were deployed.

Upon arriving at the school, the director of the prefect’s office, Jean-Baptiste Peirat, sought to reassure parents who had gathered in front of the site: “You will be able to take your children slowly.
