SYRIZA: The secret meeting that “sealed” Gerovasili’s candidacy

The meetings of executives with Olga Gerovasili and the goal of achieving unified expression in "a common candidacy"

Newsroom February 23 06:08

Yesterday’s speech by Stefanos Kasselakis at the opening of the 4th Conference of SYRIZA was the catalyst that “sealed” Olga Gerovasili’s candidacy, according to many top party officials.

Specifically, many top party executives perceived the speech as “incendiary” for themselves and “extremely divisive for the party” and its members, scheduling a meeting just a few hours later under extreme secrecy, in a professional space owned by a prominent member of SYRIZA.

There, Alekos Flambouraris, Christos Spirtzis, Katerina Notopoulou, Nikos Pappas, Kostas Zachariadis, Thanasis Theocharopoulos, as well as the party’s Secretaries, Rania Svigou and Giorgos Vasiliadis, engaged in overnight consultations, as reported by protothema.gr this morning, with the aim of achieving “unified expression” in a common candidacy.

Being there shortly before midnight, those present reportedly invited Olga Gerovasili to attend the meeting, telling her that she “had to consider the prospect” of participating in the party’s internal elections with a widely accepted candidate.
