Lawyers in Athens continue their targeted strike until 22 February

On Thursday at noon a protest meeting of the presidents of the Greek Bar Associations and the lawyers of Athens at the Ministry of Labour

Athenian lawyers are continuing their targeted walkout until February 22, while tomorrow at noon (1pm) a protest meeting of the presidents of the Greek Bar Associations and the lawyers of Athens will be held at the Ministry of Labour on the issue of the insurance capacity of lawyers and their family members, which expires on the 29th of this month.

Specifically, the Board of Directors of the Athens Bar Association at its meeting today, “taking into account that to date no government announcement has been implemented on the issues of the sector and in view of the introduction of the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure to be voted on in Parliament, decided by majority vote to extend until 22-2-2024 the targeted abstention”.

It also decided to recommend to the Plenary of the Presidents of the Bar Associations of the country, the implementation of a universal abstention on the day of the enactment of the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure.

It is recalled that it has been decided from 9-2-2024 to hold a universal abstention on 23-2-2024, the day of the protest meeting of the presidents of the Greek Bar Associations at the Ministry of Finance for the financial demands of the sector, as detailed in the plenary decision of 1.2.2024.

For the convenience of their colleagues, they are allowed to appear before the courts to request a postponement, with the obligation in case of non-appearance of the opposing party to inform the absent colleague immediately and by any appropriate means of the date of the new court hearing.

It should be noted that the abstention framework must be applied whether there is an obligation to issue an advance payment order or an exemption from that obligation as referred to in Article 61(1)(b).
