Mitsotakis on Sunak: Unfortunate event, will not affect relations with Britain, positive publicity for the Sculptures

Greek President Sakellaropoulou: It is important that Greece's just request has been understood by international public opinion

Newsroom November 29 11:46

In his first public statement after the cancellation of the meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the indecency of his British counterpart as an unfortunate event adding, however, to the dialogue he had with the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Wednesday morning, that “it will not affect Greek-British relations over time which have a significant historical depth”.

At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that this event “also had a positive side because the fair request of Greece for the reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures received more publicity not only in the United Kingdom but in the international public opinion as well”.

For her part, Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on this issue that “what I find important, because the Parthenon is important for the planet, the reunification of the sculptors which is a request of the country has found understanding from the international and British community. These are issues that do not get solved automatically, they need time and in this spirit we expect that the just request of our country will find a response sooner or later”.
