A112 message was sent to the municipality of Palamas in Karditsa, Thessaly at noon on Wednesday, warning residents in the area to be vigilant and avoid travel.

The continuing onslaught of bad weather has caused significant problems in the wider area, while a state of emergency has been declared in the regions of Magnesia, Sporades, Karditsa, Trikala, and the municipalities of Agia, Killer, Farsala P.E. Larissa, according to local media.

The raging fury of nature has struck the wider region in the last twenty-four hours causing incalculable catastrophes. The situation is considered to be extremely critical, with roads turning into rivers and people trapped in their homes.

As stated by the mayor of Palamas, George Sakellariou, speaking to protothema.gr, “the situation is tragic and desperate, there are no words. There are evacuations of civilians with tractors because, unfortunately, there is only one vehicle of the Fire Department, which cannot cover the needs. The water inside the city of Palamas in many places is more than 1.5 metres and we are trying to extricate people with tractors, platforms, and means that really do not honor us.”

The mayor stressed that the biggest problem is that there are also people with disabilities who are being forcibly transported to the indoor gym along with other people. “I have contacted the district and they are expected to come from the EMAC, but I don’t know when it will happen. The situation is tragic and the large volume of water we are expecting has not yet fallen,” the mayor of Palamas stressed, adding that help for the region is needed immediately.

Meanwhile, the residents of Trikala are counting their wounds, with the bad weather Daniel has created extensive damage and the roads have turned into torrents.

The attention of the Civil Protection is focused on Megala Kalyvia as areas in the area are already flooded and roads in the village are also flooded.

The effort to contain the volume of water has been ongoing and continuous since last night.

Dikes are already being set up on the provincial road of Megalon Kalyvia Magoula where most of the problems are occurring.
