Fire rages in Naxos (photos-video)

A large number of firefighting vehicles have been mobilised

Newsroom July 14 03:45

A fire is raging in low vegetation in the “heart” of the island of Naxos with firefighters trying to put the flames under control.

The fire started in Keramoti, in the central north of the island, its base is now in Koronos, a little further north, while there is an active front towards Siphones and Apeiranthos and it is this movement that has the Fire Brigade concerned.

A large number of firefighting vehicles have been mobilised, as all five fire trucks available in Naxos are operating, while three more are expected to arrive from Syros with the ferryboat. From the air, four aircraft and a helicopter are assisting from Elefsina and Anchialos.

As naxospress reports, a firefighting helicopter has also been activated and is at Naxos airport.
