While former governor of New Jersey and confidante of Donald Trump Chris Christie has, at the moment, only informally announced his candidacy for US President at a recent town hall, former vice president Mike Pence filed the official paperwork for his presidential run on June 5. Pence and Christie are joining what is quickly becoming a stacked roster in the Republican camp: The former’s announcement is the 8th by a prominent Republican for the 2024 election, as data from the Federal Election Commission shows.

Former president Donald Trump was the first to announce his run back in December, followed by Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson and Tim Scott as well as political outsiders Vivek Ramaswamy and Larry Elder. On the Democrats’ side, President Joe Biden filed his bid on April 25 – the same day as in 2019. His was preceded by the bids of repeat presidential candidate and self-help author Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a nephew of JFK who made headlines for his anti-vaccine stance.
