Greek teens who won 2021 Robotics Olympiad with ‘smart jacket’ recognised by Mayor of Serres (photos)

The students designed a "smart jacket" and won first place in South Korea

Two Greek teenage students won first place in the 2021 IRO International Robotics Olympiad and were awarded an honourary plaque by the mayor of Serres Alexandros Chrysafis for their distinction.

Apollon Tselepis and Dimitra Millis, both 13 years old, who won first place in innovation and skills in the youth team at the IRO 2021 International Robotics Olympiad in South Korea with their ‘smart jacket’ were awarded honorary plaques during the event, which took place today, Saturday, November 12, at the Serres Motorway.

“Apollon and Dimitra with ingenuity, perseverance, and dedication created a pioneering ‘smart’ jacket of social communication and interaction and stood out among hundreds of athletes from 52 countries”, the Mayor said.

“We are very proud because in Serres we create new talents with scientific interests and knowledge, remarkable athletes and champions, who fill us with hope for the future of our country.

“In the municipality of Serres, we support the actions related to robotic science, innovation, and technological sports training and we will be next to the Serres athletes, who will take part in the International Robotics Competition in Thailand in January 2023.”

The mayor of Serres awarded honorary diplomas to the athletes of the sports robotics department, as well as to the coaches.
