Turkey warns Greece it will cut off its gas

Erdogan's nationalist partner Bahceli said Turkey would be warm this winter, unlike Europe

Erdogan’s nationalist partner included energy threats in his provocative rhetoric, describing the hydrocarbon agreement they signed with Libya as “historic” while saying “Europe will go cold this winter unlike Turkey”.

The nationalist partner of the Turkish government, Devlet Bakhceli, continues to level threats against Greece, this time by using energy as a threat, speaking to his parliamentary group.

Bakhceli threatened Greece to stop “finger-wagging” and “challenging their [Turkey’s] patience”, since, if Greece behaves in this way, there may be an interruption of energy supply through the TAP pipeline.

According to Bakhceli, “Turkey is the safest corridor to transport rich natural gas and oil resources from the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Caucasus to Europe. The line that transports energy to Greece is TANAP. It will be in favour of energy security for this country if it stops pointing fingers at Turkey and stops testing our patience.”

“The line that transports energy to Greece is the TAP,” he said, placing Greece and the other countries that reacted negatively to the signing of a new Turkish-Libyan agreement in his line of fire. “The hydrocarbon agreement that our country signed with Libya is also of a historic nature and has greatly disturbed Western countries.”

Moreover, Erdogan’s nationalist partner claimed that Europe will go cold this year in contrast to Turkey, which is not going to face such a problem. “When we interpret the developments in terms of energy geopolitics, Turkey is the safest and most reliable terminal for transporting the rich natural gas and oil resources from the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Caucasus to Europe. European countries are thinking about how to keep warm this winter. Fortunately, Turkey never has such a problem, such a fear,” he said.
