PM Mitsotakis: I am not interested in a psychoanalysis of the Turkish political leadership

The PM said he was pleased with the results of the EU Summit

Newsroom May 31 07:06

In a press conference after the EU summit in Brussels, PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he had made it clear to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that a policy of equal distance toward Turkey could not be accepted.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke about the conclusions of the extraordinary Summit in Brussels at a press conference after the completion of the work, sending multiple messages to Turkey, clarifying that he would not follow the path of personal attacks initiated by the neighbour’s president, while he estimated that with the 6th package of sanctions, the EU would deprive Russia of significant resources. Initially, the prime minister stressed that it was “a success that the EU managed to agree on the 6th package of sanctions”.

“About 90% of Russian oil going to Europe will stop. In this way, we will deprive Russia of significant resources, so that it does not finance the barbaric invasion of Ukraine “, clarified Mr. Mitsotakis.

Mitsotakis on the 30th anniversary of the Imia crisis: There are no “grey zones” in the Aegean; once again we bow to the fallen

Regarding Turkey, Mitsotakis said: “I informed the EU leaders about the escalation of the Turkish provocation and I said that such challenges and threats can not be tolerated by Greece and the EU and I asked, if Turkey insists, to include the matter at the next Summit and to the condemnation of this completely useless Turkish provocation. It is the last thing that our region needs a new source of tension and that is why our country responds to the challenges of its neighbours with the calmness of power and the confidence of the law”.

“Greece listens to even the most absurd arguments with confidence. We deconstruct in a cold way, without outbursts, the internal arguments of Turkey. We will not resort to acridity and personal name-calling. Our self-confidence stems from the strong allies we have, our strong deterrent capacity, and the belief that we have justice on our side,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.

“I will not get involved in a game of personal characterisations with the Turkish president, I am not going to follow him. I do not intend to make a psychoanalytic or internal interpretation of the possible impasses of the Turkish political leadership. Their so-called arguments are deconstructed from our letter to the UN. We have no intention of entering into a verbal confrontation,” he said.
