Brazilian cyclists protest naked against reckless driving (photos-video)

Sao Paulo was the fourth busiest city in the world for traffic after Los Angeles, Moscow, and New York

Newsroom March 12 08:59

Several cyclists took to the streets of Sao Paulo in a nude protest against reckless driving in the city and to urge authorities to do more to protect them.
Paulista Avenue in the centre of Sao Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil, was flooded by the cyclists on March 10, with some covering their naked bodies in paint and raising their arms in protest.
In 2017, 37 cyclists were killed in the city in traffic accidents, an increase of 23 per cent from the year before.
According to a 2017 report by international consultancy Inrix, Sao Paulo was the fourth busiest city in the world for traffic after Los Angeles, Moscow, and New York.
Thousands of cyclists are killed in road accidents every year in Brazil, with data from the country’s ministry of health revealing that 8,496 cyclists were killed between 2010 and 2015.
Protesters at the event, held in partnership with the World Naked Bike Ride, covered their bodies in slogans such as  ‘Vulgar is your lack of respect’, ‘Obscene Traffic’, ‘Out with the Cars’, and ‘Your hurry costs a life’.
