Newsroom November 16 08:54

Greek police arrested five people during clashes with members of anti-establishment and extreme-left groups in the area surrounding the Athens Polytechnic, Tuesday evening. Many groups, including unions and members of the Greek communist party (KKE) led by its leader Dimitris Koutsoubas, protested against the visit of US President Barack Obama to Greece with some extreme elements of anti-establishment groups clashing with riot police units assigned with preventing the protesters from breaking the cordoned areas. 150 anarchists and anti-establishment group members hurled cocktail molotov bombs and rocks against the Greek police forces, while some rubbish bins were set on fire during the street fights and used as barricades against police units. Meanwhile, in Thessaloniki, Macedonia, hundreds of protesters gathered in central streets and marched against towards the US Consulate. They protested against the visit of US President Barack Obama to Greece, burning an american flag while chanting anti-American slogans. About 700 hundred people took part in the ant-American march in the city of Patra in the Peloponnese, while the participation in the city of Heraklion in Crete was very low.
