The change in weather that had been expected since Friday has arrived, bringing with it a cold spell around the country and an increase in winds. Polar temperatures are expected to reach -12 degrees in central Macedonia and wind velocity will climb to 9 on the Beaufort scale in areas around the Aegean.

Snowfall has already been noted at the regions around Athens, such as Dionysos, Polyteia, Barnabas, Agio Stefanos, Rodopolis, Agio Petro, Pendeli, Drosia, Anixi, Kapandriti, Kryoneri and Parnitha.

On Saturday afternoon, traffic was stopped around the regional network from Penteli-Nea Makri in Athens due to frost on the roads.

Driving around Parnitha Avenue from the sky lift towards the casino is only possible with wheel chains. Trucks have been banned from the Elefsina-Thebes regional road.

Areas most affected by the extreme weather conditions:

Attica: Penteli-Nea Makri from “414” at Pendeli to the church of St. Peter

Macedonia – Pella: Municipal road is closed from Kerasia at the Municipality of Edessa.

Western Macedonia – Florina: Florina – Kastoria (via Vitsiou) from the 180-300 km.

Thessaly: Problems at Kalabaka – Diavas – Kastania – Aspropotamos due to a landslide of a cement pylon at the Pineios River bridge due to rainfall.

Akarnania: O. Thermou – Argyrou at the 27th km due to a landslide

Etolia: O Upper Hora – Kryoneri closed due to rainfall, Platanos Livadaki-Perista – Dendrohori snowfall problems, as well as disruptions around Apodotia – Grigori

Αιτωλία: Κλειστή η Επ. Ο. Άνω Χώρας – Κρυονερίου, λόγω χιονόπτωσης, – Elatovrysi – Kydonia – Kalloni – Kryoneria

Evrytania: Closures of Karpenisiou – Fidakia – Agia Vlaherna at Rema Arvaniti from the 300th km D. A. Evias. No car traffic of over 3.5 tons from Halkida-Aidipsos from the 16th-51st km from Stavrou – Agia Sophia to Steni – Stroponon and from Ag. Athanasiou Glyfada.

Weather report

There will be an increase in clouds and local snowfall at Chalkidiki, the Sporadic islands, East Thessaly, East Thessaly, East Sterea Ellada and Evia, sleet at the North and East Peloponnese, the Cycladic islands as well as Crete.

Temperatures from -12 to 1 degrees at West Macedonia, from -5 to 4 degrees at North and Central Greece, from -2 to 10 degrees at West Greece and from -2 to 7 degrees at the rest of the country. Islands of the Northeast Aegean will experience temperatures at -1 to 4 degrees and islands of the Cyclades, Crete and the Dodecannese at 9 degrees.
